Five Reasons Why You Should Have Guest Bloggers

  1. You’ll get fresh content in a fresh, new voice.
    You may not realize it, but you and your staff may be in a bit of a rut. It’s easy to get into a routine with blogging and even though you’re still working hard at it, your stuff could be getting stale. Boring. And you may find that you don’t have the time to post frequently enough. A guest blogger brings a different perspective and can inject some life into your blog and challenge your staff writers to step up their game.
  2. Other bloggers have followers and an audience.
    This is an excellent way to get new eyes on your blog. If you invite a guest blogger who has his or her own blog with a following and traffic, they can invite their readers to come and read their post on your blog. It’s an opportunity to increase highly targeted traffic to your blog.
  3. You can attract a bunch of highly relevant inbound links.
    Your guest blogger will undoubtedly link to his post on your blog from his own blog. This has a magnetic effect. The fans and followers of your guest blogger are inclined to do the same. Plus, you can tweet about it, post it on your Facebook page, mention it on Google +. You get the picture. Others are inclined to use social media to mention and link to your guest blog also, so you suddenly have some shiny new inbound links that search engines love.
  4. You’re known by the company you keep.
    There’s a little lift in name dropping. That’s why people do it. If you can score a guest blog post by someone with a bit of celebrity, it tends to rub off on you. The more well-known and respected individuals may be hard to get and may command a fee, but it’s worth the effort and the cost if they not only deliver a great blog post, but make you look good while doing it.
  5. It’s easy and doesn’t have to cost much.
    You may not be able to afford a celebrity blogger, but there are many excellent writers out there who are willing to do an occasional guest post for you in exchange for a link from your website and a little promotion. You can set up author profile pages for your guest bloggers, and this is a great (and free) way to thank them for their contribution. Set up a page on your site that spells out the details for potential guest bloggers and let them contact you. When you find  bloggers who impress you, contact them with an invitation.

  1. Great concise post. I especially like how you not only said, fresh content, but also “new voice.” That is a great point. Two people could write on the same topic, but it is a different writing style and that adds a welcome flavor of diversity.
